Issue
Your Internet default browser is set to an application that you would prefer not to use. You may be clicking on links from colleagues or customers that are opening in a browser window in a different browser than what you'd like. For example, your default browser is set to Firefox, but you would like to change it to Chrome.
Alternatively: You can use these steps to change any default application for any file type extension.
Environment
Microsoft Windows - Various browsers. Edge or Google Chrome are recommended.
- Edge
- Google Chrome
- Mozilla Firefox
Resolution
- Click on the Windows icon on the bottom left hand of your screen and type "Default Apps". Once the "Default Apps" option populates in the search results, click it.
- Next, click on the browser shown below where it says "Web browser" to select your preferred browser.
- Congratulations, you did it! You may notice any shortcuts you have saved change their icon to match your new default browser.
Additionally: You can use this menu to change any default applications. If you don't see the file type or option you are looking for on the main Default apps page, try selecting the "Choose default apps by file type" link below the "Reset" button.
- You will see a long list of alphabetized file type extensions. Find the file type extension you are looking for (example: .pdf), select the current application, then select your new preferred application. Any current available applications should be shown on the list. If you are having trouble selecting your preferred program, you can reach out to EMIS-ServiceDesk@ecpowerslife.com for assistance
