Microsoft Windows: How to Map/Shortcut a Shared Drive

How to Map/Shortcut a Shared Drive

Issue

You have been provided access to a shared drive and need to add it to your shortcuts in File Explorer. Follow the steps below to create your own Map to the shared drive. This is a very simple and quick process!

Resolution

IMPORTANT: In order for this to work, you need to be connected to the ECCompany_Private Wi-Fi or via Ethernet in any EC/PSW/EFS office OR connected to the Cato VPN Client. If you are outside of the network, your computer will not be able to reach the shared drive you are trying to connect to.

1: Go to file explorer and Right Click on, " This PC" on the left row. Then select “Map network drive…”

2: Select the letter for the drive that you want to label your shared drive to (It doesn't matter what letter you choose. Use a letter that makes the most sence to you!). Then for “Folder”, paste the URL (link) of the drive you wish to add (example - "\\ec-maxim" (Do not include quotation marks) MIS can provide this link if you do not have it.)

Done!: You should now see the drive show up on the left hand side of your file explorer. You can click on this Map to quickly access the file.
